It depends on where the views come from. YouTube bans anything that “artificially increases the number of views, likes, comments, or other metrics”, whether through automatic systems or by serving videos to viewers who don’t know it (YouTube Help). Views from bots, view farms and exchange schemes fall under that ban. Views from YouTube’s own ads are a different thing: YouTube sells them, counts them under published rules and adds them to your video’s public view count (Google Ads Help).
What YouTube’s fake engagement policy bans
- Views, likes and comments created by automatic systems or by showing videos to people without their knowledge.
- Links to, or promotion of, third-party services that artificially inflate metrics, and websites for gaming view or subscriber counts.
- “Sub4sub” offers, where you subscribe to someone only if they subscribe back (YouTube Help).
YouTube also warns: “If you hire someone to promote your channel, their decisions may impact your channel.” In other words, you carry the risk of how a service gets its views.
What happens to fake views
YouTube checks views and engagement automatically. It may slow down, freeze or change a video’s counts and discard low-quality playbacks (YouTube Help). Under the fake engagement policy, a first violation usually brings a warning. After that, violations lead to strikes, and three strikes within 90 days can end a channel. YouTube can also terminate channels for severe abuse (YouTube Help).
In the US, the FTC’s rule announced in August 2024 bans selling or buying fake indicators of social media influence, “such as followers or views generated by a bot or hijacked account”, when the buyer knew or should have known they were fake and uses them to look more influential for a commercial purpose (FTC).
Views from YouTube ads are real views
When you promote a video with a Google Ads video campaign, real people on YouTube see it as an ad. Google counts a view from a skippable in-stream ad when the viewer watches 30 seconds, or the whole ad if it’s shorter, or clicks on it. For an in-feed video ad, a view counts when the viewer clicks the thumbnail or watches it play for at least 10 seconds. Views from ads add to the video’s public view count (Google Ads Help, YouTube Help).
This is how Boost Social Media delivers YouTube views: we promote your video through Google Ads and YouTube ads, so the people watching are real viewers. You only share the video link, never your password.
Do views help a video rank?
Not by themselves. YouTube says its recommendations use viewing behavior, likes, dislikes, subscriptions and feedback from satisfaction surveys (YouTube). The view count isn’t on that list. Views can bring people to a video, but what they do next, how long they watch and whether they like it, is what YouTube looks at. For more, see how to go viral on YouTube.
Do ad views count toward monetization?
No. YouTube lists ad campaigns among the sources that don’t count toward qualified watch hours or qualified Shorts views for the Partner Program (YouTube Help). Today you need 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. From February 1, 2027, new applicants will need 8,000 hours or 20 million Shorts views (YouTube Help). More in how much a YouTuber makes with 100K subscribers.
How to check any YouTube views service
- Ask where the views come from. Ads on YouTube are allowed. Bots, “view exchanges” and click farms are not.
- Never share your password. A views service only needs the video link.
- Be wary of “undetectable” or “mimics organic traffic” claims. That’s how fake views are sold, and YouTube checks views automatically.
- Keep the video worth watching. Views start the process. Watch time and viewer satisfaction keep it going.
