How to Ask a Question on Facebook: Posts, Polls and Groups
Facebook no longer has a separate “Questions” feature. It was taken out of the post box in October 2012 (TechCrunch). Today you ask in a normal post, in a poll inside a group, with a poll sticker in your story, or with a poll in a Messenger group chat. Polls in the News Feed and on your profile are gone (SocialChamp, Groupboss).
Ask in a post
- On your profile or Page, tap What’s on your mind? In a group, tap Write something… (SocialChamp).
- Type your question, and say what kind of answer you’re after: a recommendation, a yes or no, a number.
- Tap Post.
Create a poll in a Facebook group
In the app (Groupboss):
- Tap Menu > Groups and open the group.
- Tap the three dots next to Write something… and choose Create a poll.
- Type the question and add answers with Add a poll option.
- Tap the gear icon if you want to change the poll settings, then tap Post.
On a computer: open the group, click Write something, choose Poll, add the question and options, and post (Groupboss). Facebook’s own steps are in its Help Center.
For a sensitive question, check whether the group allows anonymous posts. When the admins turn it on, members can post under their name, anonymously or with a nickname (Meta).
Ask with a poll in your story
On your phone, create a story, add a photo or video, tap the sticker icon and choose Poll. Edit the question and the answers, tap Done and share (SocialChamp, Facebook Help).
Ask your friends in Messenger
Open a group chat, tap + next to the message box, choose Poll, type the question, add options and tap Create poll (SocialBu). Messenger’s polls are made for group chats, to make plans, pick dates and coordinate details (Messenger Help). Some guides say end-to-end encrypted chats may not have polls yet (SocialBu).
Ask Meta AI
Facebook also has an AI that answers questions. From a post in your Feed you can ask Meta AI for more information about it (Meta), and since June 2026 AI Mode in search gives answers to questions right on Facebook (Meta). Meta AI started in English in the US and more than a dozen other countries (Meta), so what you see depends on where you are.
What happened to Facebook Questions?
On October 19, 2012 Facebook removed the Questions dashboard and the option to share a poll to the News Feed. Questions stayed in groups and Pages for a while (TechCrunch). Guides that still talk about “Facebook Questions” settings or notifications describe that retired feature.
