You can’t find out who reported you, and Instagram doesn’t tell you that a report was made at all. Instagram says reporting “is always anonymous” (Instagram). What you can see is the result: a removed post, a feature you can’t use for a while, or content that Instagram stopped recommending. All of that shows up in Account Status, where you can also ask for a review.
What happens after someone reports you
A report doesn’t remove anything by itself. It sends the post, comment or account to Instagram, and the team checks it against the Community Guidelines and removes what breaks them (Instagram). If the review finds nothing wrong, nothing happens to your account and you get no message.
Since January 2025, Meta waits for someone to report a less severe violation before it acts on it, and keeps its automated systems for serious ones such as fraud and scams (Meta). For the smaller rules, then, Instagram acts only after someone reports.
Signs that a report led to action
- A post, Reel, Story or comment was removed, and a notice told you which rule it broke.
- Account Status says some of your content can’t be recommended to people who don’t follow you, in places like Explore, Reels and Feed recommendations (Instagram).
- Account Status says your account can’t appear in Search or in Suggested Accounts (Instagram).
- You can’t use a feature for a while, such as posting, commenting, following, going Live or sending messages (Inro).
None of these prove that someone reported you. Instagram also finds serious violations on its own.
How to check your Account Status
- Go to your profile and tap the menu (three lines) to open Settings and activity.
- Type “account status” in the search bar at the top. This is the quickest way in, because the menu around it has moved more than once (Inro).
- Open each item to see what was removed or limited and why.
- If you think Instagram got it wrong, tap Request a Review (Instagram).
Can you find out who reported you?
No. Instagram doesn’t share the reporter’s name, so no app or website can show it either. Guessing from who liked or commented on your posts won’t tell you, and accusing someone can turn into a bigger problem than the report.
The one exception is intellectual property. When a post is removed after a copyright or trademark report, the notice can include the name and email of the rights owner, so you can contact them about it (YouReputationSolution).
What to do if a report hit your account
- Read the notice in Account Status. It names the rule, which tells you what to avoid next time.
- If the post didn’t break that rule, request a review from the same screen.
- If the reports come from someone who is targeting you, you can restrict, mute or block them (Instagram).
How close an account is to being removed depends on what was reported, not on a count. More in how many reports it takes to delete an Instagram account.
FAQ
Does Instagram notify you when someone reports you?
No. You only hear from Instagram if its review removes something or limits your account.
Will the person I report know it was me?
No. Reports are anonymous (Instagram). Copyright and trademark reports are the exception, because the notice can name the rights owner.
Can I see the reports I made?
Yes. Instagram lists them with their status in Support Requests, in your settings (Instagram).
Does one report get an account deleted?
A report only starts a review. What decides is what the review finds: for a serious violation, one report can be enough.
