WHAT A SHADOWBAN LOOKS LIKE

A sudden drop with no other explanation

People call it a shadowban when posts quietly stop reaching anyone beyond the account’s followers. Instagram shows this in Account Status. From the outside, the first sign is usually a fall in likes, so the checker compares the newest posts with the ones before them.

Newest posts against earlier ones

The median likes of the 3 newest posts that are at least a day old are compared with up to 9 posts before them.

A clear verdict

No sign of a shadowban, a drop worth watching, or a sharp drop, with every number behind it.

The official check explained

Only Instagram knows for sure. Account Status in the app shows whether your posts can be recommended to people who don’t follow you.

HOW TO USE IT

Check an Instagram account for a shadowban in three steps

Use it when a new post gets far fewer likes than usual.

1

Enter the public username

Type the handle with or without the @. The account has to be public and have at least 6 posts.

2

Read the comparison

See the likes of the newest posts next to the earlier ones, and the change in percent.

3

Confirm it in Account Status

If the drop is sharp, open Account Status in Instagram to see whether your content can be recommended.

IF YOUR REACH DROPPED

What to do when posts stop reaching people

Start with what Instagram itself shows you, then look at the posts.

Open Account Status

Instagram says Account Status shows whether your content can be recommended to non-followers in Explore, Reels, and Feed, and whether your account can appear in Search and Suggested Accounts.

Fix or remove a flagged post

When Account Status lists a post, you can edit or delete it, or ask for a review if you think the decision was a mistake.

Compare like with like

A Reel and a photo, or a holiday post and an everyday one, can differ a lot. Check again after a few more posts before you decide.

COMMON QUESTIONS

About this free tool

What is an Instagram shadowban?

It is the common name for posts that quietly stop reaching people beyond the account’s followers, for example in Explore or Reels. Instagram’s Account Status shows when content is not eligible to be recommended to non-followers.

How does this shadowban checker work?

It reads the public likes of up to 12 recent posts, leaves out pinned posts and posts younger than a day, and compares the median likes of the 3 newest posts with the posts before them. A fall of more than 50% is a drop worth watching, and a fall of more than 75% is a sharp drop.

Can the checker prove a shadowban?

No. Fewer likes can also come from a weaker post, a new format, or a quiet time to post. Only Instagram knows the reach of a post, which is why the result points you to Account Status.

How do I check Account Status on Instagram?

In the Instagram app, open the menu on your profile and find Account Status in Settings. It lists removed content and shows whether your posts and your account can be recommended.

What if the account hides its like counts?

Then the public data has no likes to compare, and the result says so. The account owner can still see the numbers and Account Status in the app.

Is the account owner notified?

No. The checker only reads public numbers. Nothing is followed, liked, or sent to the account.
